Biomechanical deficiencies or musculoskeletal injury can require the use of equipment or technologies that are designed to relieve patients’ pain, encourage healing, and prevent further injury. Superior Performance Center offers a wide variety of these types of materials to assist our clinicians and provide our patients with the highest quality of care and options suited for each individual person. Whether you are looking for casting, splinting, and bracing or the traditional shoe insert orthotic, Superior Performance Center can offer care through our orthotics and bracing options.
Orthotics is a branch of medicine that deals with the provision and use of artificial devices such as splints and braces. Orthotics are used to support, immobilize, align, prevent, or correct the function of movable parts of the body. These devices can treat muscles, joints, or skeletal parts which are weak, ineffective, deformed or injured.
Orthopedic immobilization techniques such as casting, splinting, bracing, and shoe inserts play a vital role in injury recovery and rehabilitation. Casts are used after the initial swelling phase to immobilize and support healing, maintain bone alignment, reduce pain, and protect injured areas—though they require careful application and timely follow-ups to prevent complications. Splints, which are noncircumferential and easy to apply, are ideal in acute settings as they accommodate swelling and allow for regular inspection; they come in static or dynamic forms and may be custom-made or pre-fabricated. Braces are used to align, stabilize, and protect joints, muscles, or bones during recovery from injuries or surgeries—examples include valgus knee braces for osteoarthritis, patellar braces for knee pain, and wrist splints for carpal tunnel syndrome. Shoe inserts (orthotics) support the feet, help correct biomechanical imbalances, and relieve pain from conditions like shin splints or tendinitis, aiding in overall alignment and mobility.
